Ooooh Nooo! Macho Man Randy Savage Dead at 58

With the exception of those who fell into deep  Slim Jim addictions because of his compelling sales pitch, all wrestling fans mourn the tragic loss of legendary professional wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage. Savage (Randall Mario Poffo) died on Friday, May 20, 2011 from injuries incurred in a car accident caused by his heart attack. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

One of the most compelling personalities in wrestling history, Savage will be remembered by fans and peers as one of the greatest stars in the sport’s history. During his career, Savage was a ten-time world champion, including a two-time WWF World Champion, four-time WCW World Champion, one-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion, and three-time ICW World Heavyweight Champion.

As I have reminded many of my East Texas, rednecked, blacknecked, boarder lined illiterate and somewhat toothless brothers, many a time, over many years, “That shit ain’t real!” At the tended age of 16, I actually attended a grudge match in Shreveport, La. in 1976 between Killer Carl Cox and Cowboy Bill Watson and walked away realizing “That shit ain’t real!” My ass never darkened the doors of the Hirsh Memorial Collosium for wrestling again. May he rest in peace.

    • I’ve got a grudge match with those two as well. First, Killer Carl Cox was bald and never embraced it. Second, Cowboy Bill Watson tried to hide his true self by rocking a combover. But to see them firsthand… magical.
